We will focus on various digital photography techniques including composition & lighting. Youth need to bring their own digital cameras. Each meeting will be held in a different location. Depending on the location, parents may be asked to stay for the class.
Learn to raise chickens and other birds for eggs, show, or just to learn – maybe you like competing in knowledge competitions! Covers feeds, showing, parasite/ pest/ illness management. (No need to own poultry) We learn about most farm birds, including chickens, ducks, turkeys, quail. Due to CA current Virulent Newcastle Disease, all shows are cancelled & meetings are held indoors. Meetings usually held one Sunday of each month at 1pm.
The Knowledge Bowl is an animal knowledge competition at the San Diego County Fair. Kids compete in teams of 3, during the final week of the fair. There are small animal teams (rabbits, cavies, pygmy goats, poultry and dogs), large animal teams (swine, beef and dairy cattle, sheep and goats) and poultry. The project helps kids prepare for the competition. Meetings: 1st Tues. of each month 5:45pm - 6:30pm
Beginning: Open to all ages.
Project members will learn about giving important vaccines, feed, how goats and showmen are judged, goat breeds, grooming, breeding your goat, and planning for milking responsibilities and baby goats. Meetings usually held one weekday afternoon or evening each month
Intermediate: Ages 9 & up ONLY
Serious dairy goat members will work to improve their show, more depth of knowledge, judging skills & care. Plan to meet one weekday afternoon/evening each month.
Beg. & Int.: Recommend parents observe as well as know how to support their children’s care of these sturdy but still potentially delicate ruminant animals.
ADVANCED: Ages 14 & up with 3 Years of experience
We will work on advanced knowledge, advanced care & show techniques. There will be field trip(s) to visit a commercial dairy goat farm & other opportunities to see how the expert breeders do it.
Meetings 3rd Saturday of each month @ 10am
