In the October our first general meeting will be held...even though it's online there will be fun and games and we are deciding whether or not to dress up for a virtual costume contest!!!

On Saturday October 21st, members of our Olivenhain Valley 4-H Club attended San Diego County Achievement Awards Night. The event started at 6:30 and everyone gathered to their seats. The night began with a meal that was kindly provided by the chef of the Del Mar Fairgrounds. After eating, the adult volunteers conducted a raffle drawing from donated items from various 4-H Clubs. Throughout the evening, Paulett Sullen, a retired 4-H leader, was awarded certificates of recognition for outstanding achievements, outstanding volunteerism, and a long time of dedication of over 25 years by Senator Joel Anderson. Local 4-H members were also honored for the record book keeping 2016-2017 contest. We had a fun time, and look forward to going again next year.

PARADE SETUP--- 3pm at Moonlight Beach 
BRING--
  • A towel to sit on and one for your animal if you're bringing one
  • Youth Autholization form--print from button below, sign and bring along
  • Warm clothing--Christmas attire encouraged but NO Santa costumes. 
We also need two volunteers to carry the 4-H banner in front of the float and wear our entry number (48)

The details:

​Olivenhain Valley 4-H's float entry number is:   48
Our float's line-up (aka "hurry-up-and-wait" location):  
on Second Street (west side of the road) at the CORNER OF G Street.
The parade starts at 5:30 sharp with entry #1 - we don't know when our float (#48) will start moving, but it will most likely be within the first half-hour. 

If you are walking with an animal, you must have someone following with a scoop/broom and bucket or wheelbarrow, depending on the size of the animal of course! You may also wagon your animal or carry your animal. If you carry, be sure you have a crate in tow for when (not if!) your arms get tired, or your animal refuses to walk any further (trust me, it happens! Try carrying a 30 lb. "baby" goat for the second half of the parade route!)

Attire:  TBA per our float theme, though holiday attire will always suffice, HOWEVER, There are to be NO Santas - only the Encinitas parade has the one and only Santa. Participants may wear elf hats, reindeer antlers, and Christmassy stuff.

ALSO IMPORTANT - no tossing candies or anything else out to the crowds!  It makes children run out into the street, creating a safety risk!

We will have hot chocolate and hot dogs, maybe some other snacks, for the wait.

For parents to know where the parade ends:
Please coordinate your pickup plans with your children and with our club's parade organizer. The float will not be allowed to stop immediately at the end of the route (which is J Street at Coast Hwy) but will most likely be able to pause for offloading on 2nd Street at or near "I" Street. Further TBA:  we will need to tell you parents the final stopping point the float will arrive for tear-down and the key contact cell phone for our club - stay tuned! You may either arrange to pick up your children at the end of the parade, on 2nd Street close to "I" Street - OR - at the final stop where the float will be dismantled. (HINT: we always LOVE having speedy helpers to stick around for the super-fun tear-down phase! wink wink!)
